On 24 June 2010, after a three hour sentencing hearing, Christopher Aaron Woods was sentenced to 25 years in prison for various crimes, the most serious being armed robbery of a pharmacy in the city of Norton. Alisha Mae Newsome, an accomplice and getaway driver in the armed robbery, also received a 12 year sentence. The Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mr. Ronald Elkins, along with Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Ken Lammers argued the case in front of the Honorable John C. Kilgore. “We are very pleased with the sentences handed down against Woods and Newsome”, Elkins said. “The Court sent a strong message that this type of conduct will not be tolerated, and it will serve as a deterent to potential future offenders. We would like to recognize the great work of the City of Norton Police Department, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kentucky State Police in investigating and concluding these cases” said Elkins.
